If you are ever lost and need to get your bearings (and happen to be near a cow pasture), just look to a cow for guidance. Using aerial photos of grazing herds from around the world it was shown that cows stand in line with the north-south magnetic plane far more often than chance would suggest. I am not sure why this is important to cows. I would suggest that this might be vestigial, but who knows.
